August 6, 2011

Today I went into the office at normal time to work on some missionary recommendations that are fully completed and ready to be submitted. I had a temple recommend interview scheduled for 9am. The Zone Leaders from Nausori came in around 8:30 to pick up their truck. They had just gone to an island called Lautuka which is just off the main island. There is a branch of the Church there but there are not currently any missionaries assigned to that branch. The stake president over that Branch had returned from a Branch Conference two weeks ago and told me that they had several investigators who wanted to be taught the gospel. I gave these Zone Leaders the assignment to arrange to go begin the teaching process and assess the situation. They came back quite excited about the new investigators as well as how beautiful the island was.

My temple recommend interview was an interesting challenge. It seems that this sister moved to Tuvalu about 4 years ago from Samoa. It appears that they may have never moved her records there. Since it is Saturday, I wasn’t able to contact our brother in the service center downstairs who has access to membership record information throughout the world. I will have to figure out what the problem is with her recommend information on Monday. Fortunately, she is scheduled to be in town for another week or so. After working all morning, I suggested to Jan that we could go grocery shopping at Cost-U-Less. She seemed excited about it so we went off on a 2 hour adventure. It was a pretty long drive there but the day was sunny and the traffic wasn’t too bad. We had a good time shopping without feeling rushed to leave because someone else was with us. After coming back and putting things away, I went back to the office to finish up the 5 missionary recommends I wanted to submit today. I also made some progress on preparations for the fireside we are supposed to host tomorrow at 5pm. I also worked through the need for a transfer in Vanuatu to happen this coming week. I called the Senior Zone Leaders to get their input, called Elder Warner to get his input and left him with the task to ask Elder Albrecht about one situation where he is closer to the branch than either Elder Warner or the Senior Zone Leaders. Jan and I had dinner and finalized our assignments for the topics each would cover at the fireside tomorrow. By 8:30 I asked Jan to give me a haircut which she did. I exchanged text messages with the Assistants. They had just picked up the Elders who had been serving in Rotuma. This island is a very remote island to the north and they were not able to come in to meet me during the mission tour. These are the only two Elders I haven’t yet met. We have arranged to have them come into the office tomorrow afternoon around 2pm for our first interviews. It is sad that Elder Gollman will be going home in about 5 days so this will be the only interview I have with him before his final interview.
